5.4 More About Job Banks

There are literally thousands of job banks on the Net based in North America. Finding job banks that suit your needs can be an overwhelming task.

  • Start by finding job banks that offer job postings in the city or region where you want to work.
  • Remember, most job banks focus on large urban markets.
  • If you want to work in a small rural community, you usually won't find a job through the Net.
  • Stick to the larger sites that allow you to search by region and industry.
  • Don't post your resumé randomly in these job banks. Be sure to target your job search to specific jobs and employers.

Here are some major job banks in BC and Canada in addition to those described in the previous module:

BC Public Service: Apply for jobs with the BC Government at this website.

BCJobs.com: A job bank dedicated to job postings only in British Columbia.

BCJobs.ca: Another job bank dedicated to job postings in BC.

CareerBuilder.com: Offers an extensive list of job postings and a gateway to international opportunities.

Career Owl: Register as a Job Seeker and search jobs across Canada. Also check out Job Seeker Resources

Charity Village Career Centre: Paid and volunteer positions in the non-profit sector across Canada.

HotJobs Canada: The Canadian version of the the 2nd most popular job search site in the US; search by city.

Monster.ca: One of the largest job banks around; allows you to search by city.

Workopolis: Canada’s largest job bank with many resources for job seekers.

Job Bus Canada: Not really a job bank, but a great service. The Job Bus drops you off right at the career pages of companies and organizations across Canada.
