Research companies on the Net

Since most medium to large businesses have websites, you should turn to the Net to research companies for potential work opportunities. Check out the following sources of employer profiles and directories:

The Best Companies to Work for in BC: Check this list of the top 25 employers in the province. Plus a close-up look at the top 10 – who they are, and what they’re doing to keep their staffs fired up.

T-Net Directory: The T-Net Supplier Directory is a comprehensive directory of suppliers to the BC technology industry. Lists BC companies that supply goods and services.

BC Chambers of Commerce

Most Chambers of Commerce in BC communities have websites the usually list local businesses that are members. Use your search engine to find the chamber in your community; that is search for “Your Community” Chamber of Commerce. Then click on “Membership Director.” For example, type in Victoria Chamber of Commerce.

Use your search engine

Also remember to use your search engine to find the websites of other employers you might be interested in. Be sure to put the name of the employer in quotations or indicate on the search engine that you want to search on the exact phrase.

You can also go to Yahoo's Business and Economy page to find a huge list of Canadian companies, sorted by industry.

"Job-hunting on the Internet should, in no way, be your sole means of looking for a new job. The traditional methods of networking, job boards, classified ads, and targeted job searches should still be part of your overall job-hunting plan. The Internet simply expands the job-hunting resources that are available to you."
